Congratulations, Dominican Republic! Your All-Star squad failed to beat fellow world baseball power, The Netherlands. Yes, your team of Big Papi, Pedro, Hanley Ramierez, Edinson Volquez, Miguel Tejada, Jose Reyes and others failed not once, but TWICE against a Dutch squad whose only two recognizable faces include an
obese and drunk driving pitcher and a guy who's most known for
hitting a sausage with a bat. Most prognosticators had the Dominicans as one of the favorites to win The World Baseball Classic while regarding the Dutch as little more than a AA minor league caliber team. Our own Carlos Marmol gave up two runs in the bottom of the 11th to blow the save and eliminate the Dominican Republic from The World Baseball Classic. How is Kevin Gregg doing down in Arizona?
I have to admit that The World Baseball Classic has been quite captivating. Some pundits will claim that not all of the stars showed up to play, which is true, but if you
peruse the rosters, it's certainly not a misfit cast by any means. It isn't Spring Training where no one really cares what is going on, these are all highly competitive and emotional games. Give it a shot, if only to possibly see more cases of David slaying
Big Papi Goliath.
Is there still room on The Netherlands bandwagon?
