The Gist: Game 33

The Game: After yesterday's debacle, the Cubs 3-0 win over the Reds today was a pleasant surprise. Why a surprise? Aaron Harang is pretty good, and without Matt "I Own Harang" Murton in the lineup, I wouldn't have been surprised if we would have let this one slip away. But as good as Harang was, Carlos Zambrano was even better. Sure, the Cubs didn't get much offense, but it was enough to fly the white flag.

Turning Point Of The Game: Ronny Cedeno's 2-run single in the top of the 4th. WIth the way that Zambrano was pitching, the 3-0 lead seemed like it was 10-0. Speaking of Ronny Cedeno, is he for real or not? I can't decide. Every time I think he's about to cool off, he comes through with more and more big hits.

Immodium AD "Runs Stopper" Of The Game: Carlos Zambrano. After going 3-8 in our last 11 games, Carlos stepped up and continued to be the stopper. Think that the whole contract issue wasn't a big deal to Zambrano last year? Check out Carlos this far into 2007 ...

3-3, 5.83 ERA, 35-24 K/BB

...and compare that to what he's doing so far this year:

5-1, 1.80 ERA, 38-14 K/BB

Preparation H "Assholes Of The Game": The Reds lineup. In no way am I complaining that the Reds didn't score, but it's gotta be frustrating for Aaron Harang. In half of his starts, the Reds have scored 2 runs or less.

Just For Fun: In case you forgot, today was the 10 year anniversary of the Kerry Wood 20 strikeout game. Get your daily dose of nostalgia here.
